Matt and Nichole have trained their Springer Spaniels, Mia and Abby, to be great hunting dogs and they've always considered them to be their babies. However, they will soon have a new baby boy, Sebastian. The due date is set for this Sunday 1/29 :) We took them out to the mountains last month to get some photos before Sebastian makes his grand appearance. Hopefully they can train their baby to be as obedient as their dogs:) haha.
We wish Matt and Nichole all the best with their new baby and look forward to many more family shoots in the future!

Allison + Dan's Vail Wedding Album

Here is a look at an album we created for Allison and Dan's Vail Colorado wedding which was held on August 13, 2011. Their 10 x 10 album has a total of 60 pages and showcases the wedding festivities from the pre-wedding whitewater rafting/brewery excursion with Lakota Guides & Crazy Mountain Brewing through the final dancing at The Game Creek Club in the bowls of the Vail Ski Resort. A big thank you to JoAnn Moore of Mountains and Meadows Wedding Planning for helping coordinate such a wonderful weekend.

Tom Kim is Ashley's boss at r2 advisors, a turnaround consulting firm in downtown Denver, and we recently had the privilege to photograph his family while they were in town over the holidays. Tessa (5 and 7/12ths)and Talia (3 and 7/12ths) are Tom and Rebecca's daughters and Ashley has formed a very special bond with these extremely intelligent and particularly funny girls. Jenn + Luke's Wedding {Downtown Denver Wedding}

Jenn and Luke went to school at the University of Iowa and are fellow Hawkeyes! They are friends of my brother, Kyle and therefore we were more than excited to shoot their wedding. Their ceremony was held at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church on the Auraria campus near Downtown Denver on a perfect November day. From getting ready at the Curtis Hotel, to the gorgeous flowers, to the extravagant Rolls Royce limo, to the phenomenal venue, Mile High Station, their wedding was perfect. We are thrilled for Jenn and Luke and all their future has in store!

Celia + Ian {Snowy Evergreen Engagement Session}

One of our favorite things about meeting new clients is hearing the story of how they met; and believe me we've heard a lot of stories. From online dating to high school sweethearts to networking lunches...every couple has their own incredibly unique story and this couple is no different! Celia and Ian met at an AC/DC cover band concert through a friend of Ian's. It turns out that the same friend, also knew Celia from Argentina when she was living there years ago. Sounds like fate to me!
We've had some crazy snowy weather in Denver over the past week and we were able to convince Celia and Ian to get out and have some fun in the snow near Evergreen. We had a blast with them. Hopefully they'll forgive me for shaking the branch to simulate snow falling at the end of the shoot and hopefully Ian has forgiven Celia for nailing him with a snowball...luckily it made for a great photo;)

Angelica + Joe Part II {City Park Engagement Session}

You may remember Angelica and Joe's Sports Authority Field Engagement shoot from a few months back, well I had a chance to get them to Denver City Park a couple months later for a few more photos. By the time we got together again the leaves were all gone and there was a chill in the air. Angelica toughed it out long enough to capture some fun shots near the famous boat house. Amato Family Christmas {Denver Family Photographer}

Drake has been wanting to put together a holiday studio shoot for quite some time so he bought the tree, presents (fake of course) and all the other decorations to put it together. We got up early on Saturday and headed to the studio to wrap the presents and decorate the tree before the Amato's arrived.
AJ was one of the first babies we had the privilege of shooting back in 2009 at Wash Park. Wow how time flies. He's now 2 and cuter than ever! I absolutely love his wavy blond hair! We were able to get a few photos of the family before it was naptime for AJ.
Next year, we plan on having an even better holiday studio set up so keep us in mind when the 2012 holidays roll around.

Ashleigh & Parker had planned to get married at the Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater, however nature had other plans for them. Due to the first snow of the season, the couple moved the ceremony to the Rembrandt Art Gallery in downtown Boulder and it turned out beautifully! Parker is an avid skier and we believe the snow was a lucky sign for this great couple!

We do a lot more at Drake Busch Photography than simply shoot weddings and portraiture. Here are some photos from a recent architectural shoot for a long time client of mine Jordy Construction. Jordy built out one of downtown Denver's newest restaurants, Coohills. Coohills Restaurant is located in the 1400 Wewatta building in the LoDo area of Denver. Here is a look inside! As you can see the ambiance of the restaurant is spectacular and the intimate bar design makes it a great addition to downtown Denver.

Here is a little something for Thanksgiving. Meet Deanna and Rob! They are a truly amazing couple and very thankful to have met each other. We had a blast shooting their engagement session up in Evergreen and Alderfer/Three Sisters Park Open Space. At the end of the shoot we left them enjoying a ice cold Corona listening to live music down at the Little Bear in Evergreen. We look forward to their winter wedding in Steamboat Springs, CO in a few months. It will include a horse drawn sleigh ride in the mountains. Cant wait! Rob's daughter was able to come along as well and we were able to snap a few of the new family all together as well which I will share soon. Happy Thanksgiving!

Samantha + Chris wanted to get out and shoot a second engagement shoot...this time with Drake and I :) We took them out on one of the last nights of fall. A night that we got about 6 inches of snow, however we were able to beat the snow by a few hours and got rain instead! They were troopers and we were able to get some fun shots of them in the gloomy rain, which is rare in Denver. They are getting married in the Spring and we couldn't be happier for this great couple! Happy Birthday to one of our amazing beautiful brides, Dory North! Dory and David got married at the Denver Botanic Gardens on a somewhat rainy day, however Dory never once let that get in the way of her happiness to marry David. From the moment we met Dory and David, they made us feel like part of the family. Dory's smile and kindness are contagious and it definitely shows in the photos!

Angelica + Joe {Invesco Field at Mile High Denver Engagement Photography}

Ironically we met Angelica and Joe at a bridal show at Invesco Field last Winter. They were planning their New Mexico wedding and we were excited at the possibility of shooting our first wedding in the Land of Enchantment. Drake ended up meeting them for coffee and Joe happened to be wearing his Champ Bailey Broncos jersey. This led to the decision of shooting an Invesco Field, now Sports Authority Field at Mile High, engagement session on a early fall afternoon. They brought their precious puppy, Bailey (of course named after the Broncos cornerback) along for the shoot as we toured outside the stadium and the surrounding neighborhood. Here is a look at a few shots from their session.

Jordan & Mike Engagement Session {Lookout Mountain, Dave & Buster's, Downtown Denver Photographer}

We met Jordan a few months ago along with her mom and 2 friends. We had great conversation and knew immediately that Jordan had to have us as her photographers;) She and Mike met for their first date at Dave & Buster's. He won her over with his mad skillz on the pool table (that's just an assumption:)

Mike is now working as a military contractor in Kosovo and only returns home a couple times per year. We were able to catch him during his last visit long enough for 2 photo shoots! We met first at Millennium Bridge near Downtown Denver and then headed to Dave & Buster's for some skee-ball, horse racing, Nascar and an awesome photo booth experience. Let's just say, they're going to have some cute kids;) The next day Drake took them out to Lookout Mountain where they were able to catch some great sunlight and nice Fall weather. There were so many great photos that we decided to post more than usual:)

We're looking forward to their Summer wedding at Hudson Gardens.

They wanted a unique engagement session and since they're both from Colorado, they decided to showcase their Rockies pride with a Coors Field engagement shoot. We had a lot of fun with them in and around the stadium, from the dugout, to home plate, to the waterfall and the purple row. It's not everyday that you get to shoot in a completely empty baseball stadium. We had a blast with Meg & Brian and are excited for their wedding at the beautiful Denver Country Club next July.

Whitney + Matt {Sneak Peek} - Beaver Creek Wedding Photographer

We first met Matt and Whitney last Winter in a quaint coffee shop (Common Grounds) in the Highlands neighborhood near downtown Denver. They seemed to be a quiet, shy couple until we met them for a pre-wedding happy hour at Amato's Ale House a few weeks before their wedding. We immediately bonded with them and could tell that they had a very special connection that you don't see in a lot of couples. Plus, the fact that Matt was from Santa Fe, New Mexico where Ashley spent many years.

They had a gorgeous mountain wedding in Beaver Creek, CO. The ceremony and reception took place at the beautiful Park Hyatt Resort and Spa. From the New Mexico/Colorado favors to the Kate Spade heels, to the photo booth and post reception pizza and wings, everything was perfectly planned.

Their wedding was full of emotion and the speeches from Kelli (the MOH) and Dylan (the BM) were some of the most touching speeches I've heard.

Whitney and Matt are headed to Thailand for 3 weeks tomorrow!! We wish them the happiest of honeymoon and look forward to hearing all their stories and of course seeing pictures when they return.

South Meets Southwest~Rachel + Jason {Sneak-Peek}

This wedding holds a very special place in our hearts and especially in mine {Ashley}. Rachel is my cousin and she has been one of my closest friends, my confidante, my stylist and make up artist since I was born!

Rachel and Jason have such a special story and I'd like to share it with you. They met back in high school and dated for about 3 years. However, God had a different path in mind for each of them at the time. They each went their separate ways and lo and behold 11 years later, their paths crossed once again when Jason asked Rachel to go fishing. She couldn't turn down her favorite sport or her first love. She told me it was as if no time had passed and they picked up right where they left off 11 years ago. The next week Jason sent Rachel a dozen roses...one for each year they were apart and one for the year of possibilties to come. Rachel is so thankful that she put her life in God's hands and let him have control. Sometimes the wait is worth it:)

Rachel & Jason were married at our Aunt & Uncle's amazing property in Birmingham, Alabama, Rancho de las Aguilas on August 27, 2011. I'm sure it was everything Rachel could've asked for and more. She was a gorgeous princess bride!

House Frau + Ultra Marathoner in Vail, CO {Allie + Dan}

The mother of the groom, Ruth, couldn't have described Allie any better: "When Allie walks into a room, it's like a field of sunflowers." Allie's radiance and sincerity are infectious to everyone around her. When I asked Allie what she does in Switzerland, she coyly stated that she is a house frau. Swiss for house wife. Although she has become quite involved in the American Women's Club in Zurich since moving to Switzerland with her new husband Dan, about a year ago.

Drake and I have shot many weddings together and we have never felt more at ease with any couple or bridal party than we did with Allie and Dan. They made us feel like we were part of their family. They included us in all the festivities which included a day of white water rafting, a trip to the Crazy Mountain Brewery accompanied by the famous Moe's Bar-B-Que, a fun night out at the Red Lion, a magnificent rehearsal dinner at The Fitz at Manor Vail Lodge, a breathtaking ceremony atop the Vail Ski Area and a World Class reception at the Game Creek Club. The entire weekend was perfectly planned (thanks to Cindy, Allie and of course wedding planner, JoAnn Moore at Mountains and Meadows) and the weather couldn't have been more ideal for a Colorado mountain wedding. Here's a peek at a quiet moment between Allie and Dan on the Game Creek deck as the sun went down over the Rocky Mountains. We look forward to editing and posting more in the days and weeks to come. Allie and Dan are a fantastic couple and we wish them many, many years of trail running together. We look forward to seeing you in Switzerland someday:)

Love is like a Roller Coaster {Amy+John}

We had the pleasure of traveling to Okoboji, Iowa this past weekend to shoot Amy & John's wedding. John was my Phi Kappa Psi pledge son back at the University of Iowa so it was an honor to witness his marriage to Amy, who couldn't be a better fit for John. They are a fun loving, laid-back couple and they made sure that everyone was having a great time throughout their day.
After the ceremony, we took them along with the bridal party to Arnold's Park, a small amusement park on the lake, and after some haggling, the groomsmen and bridesmaids were able to secure us all a spot on the roller coaster. This was definitely a first for me and Ashley. Ashley decided to try her luck with filming a video clip from the front of the coaster. She was uncertain as to how she was going to hold onto the camera while going 80+ mph (exaggerating-but that's what it felt like). It wasn't easy but this is what she got, a shaky, bright, sometimes out of focus video:) But, hey we had fun and hopefully Amy & John will treasure the memory of the wedding day roller coaster ride and enjoy the roller coaster that is life. Best wishes to a truly amazing couple!

Anita + Brian's Engagement Session

To begin, this was one of the most fun engagement shoots we've been on. Anita and Brian were so at ease with one another and completely in love. They were also willing to trudge through the fields, splash in the water fountain and be on showcase for the many tourists of Boulder.

To preface this story, before Anita and Brian were even a glimmer in the other's eye, I was in school at the Art Institute of Colorado working toward my degree in photography and building my portfolio. Anita was a model and agreed to step in front of my lens. Years down the road, she remembered the photos I had taken and asked if we could shoot their engagements while they were in town visiting from their new home in Nashville, TN. Of course I was excited to get her back in front of the camera and we were excited to meet Brian. We took them to a couple different Boulder locations including the restaurant where they met for their first date~~Centro Latin Kitchen. The staff at Centro were superb! They sat Anita and Brian at the exact table where they had their first date (which happened to last 6 hours) and served them champagne to celebrate their engagement!!

Kelly + Matt {Sneak Peak}

We met Kelly and Matt at a bridal show at Invesco Field back in February of 2011 and we instantly connected. They were a fun couple with a lot of unique ideas for their special day. Matt is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights were an awesome addition to their wedding party. The ceremony was incredible with all the Knights donned in their uniforms and Kelly made the ceremony truly unique by singing while walking down the aisle. It was a great surprise to everyone! The reception was held at the Meadows at Marshdale in Evergreen. We had such a great time with this couple as well as with their friends, family and awesome bridesmaids:) We wish Kelly and Matt the best in all their future adventures together.

Erin + Lance Matarazzo {Sneak Peak}

Last weekend we had the opportunity to shoot Erin and Lance's wedding at the Hudson Gardens just South of Denver. Erin and Lance were a lot of fun and the gardens were gorgeous. We were afraid of the clouds and lightning storm, however it turned into a gorgeous Summer evening and the storms seemed to slowly drift around the gardens, which made for an awesome night. Their wedding was full of color from the rose garden ceremony to the bright pink bridesmaid dresses and gorgeous bouquets. Stay tuned for more photos of their wedding and their photo booth:)

Last week I was on the go all over town shooting headshots for various companies. The photo below is one of a women named Chelsea Deutscher. Chelsea is the proud owner of Wynkoop Dental, a dental office that just opened its doors on 14th and Wynkoop St. in May of 2011. One year from today I will hold the hand of my best friend and say "I do" at this very spot on the beach of Gulf Shores Alabama. I have been shooting more and more Architecture over the past few months and have really taken a liking to it. It is quite different and provides many new challenges that you don't necessarily see when shooting portraits and weddings. As we close in on the beginning of May here we have been meeting and talking more and more with our 2011 couple Stacie Williams and Chris Flynn. Their wedding isn't until the end of May, but there is much to discuss as it is taking place across the country in Boston, MA. We love to travel for weddings as its a chance for new challenges and great photo opportunities that only new surroundings can bring. It is especially fun when it is a local couple that we get to know before the trip through consultations and engagement shoots and can share in the excitement with them. Being able to capture more than just the wedding day festivities such as the rehearsal dinner/lunches/group outings etc is such a treat for us. As far as this trip to Boston, the flights are booked, Four nights in the Boston Park Plaza Hotel across from the Boston Commons reserved, and the shot list and itinerary has been delivered so now we wait in anticipation. Here is a look back at Stacie and Chris's Red Rock Amphitheater engagement shoot last fall. Can't wait for the wedding!

An Easter Hike!

On this cold and dreary Easter day, Ashley and I decided it would be a good idea to get out of the house and take a little hike. When we don't have anywhere specific in mind, we make it a point to scout future wedding or other photography locations. Today we went to the Sunrise Amphitheater over looking Boulder, CO. It is a beautiful setting for an outdoor wedding in Colorado and in October we will be shooting Ashleigh Mayer and Parker Doughtery's wedding at this very spot. Despite the cold weather and dusting of snow it was a great get away from the city. After the hike we stopped down into Boulder for some appetizers and beers on Pearl Street before returning back to Denver. Now time host Easter dinner ribs with family and friends. I love Sunday's.

My brother Kyle and his girlfriend Krista just got a new puppy. He was picked up from the Weld County Humane Society. His name is Koda, and he is a mix of a number of unknown breeds. They are pretty certain that he is majority Australian Cattle Dog & Lab. Whatever he is he is a very cute little puppy and still pretty shy around other people. He is especially shy around a big 6'0 195 lb man with a large camera and lens in his face :) Im sure there will be many more to come but here are his first photos courtesy of Drake Busch Photography.

WBC Light Welterweight Title Fight!

This past Saturday night I was asked if I would cover the WBC Light Welterweight Title fight between Denver's own Manny Perez and Albuquerque New Mexico's Randy Arellin at Red & Jerry's. You might recognize Manny from past photos on the blog as I have had the honor to photograph his family many times. I had never been to a live boxing match and I have been talking to Manny about covering one of his fights for awhile now. What better fight to cover than a title bout. The fight lasted 8 rounds before Arellin bowed out and Manny took home the belt! There are more photos from the night up on Drake Busch Photography's facebook. Otherwise known as Washington Park, has been a very busy place these past few weeks. Spring is definitely in the air around Denver with temperatures in the 60's and the usual blue skies and gorgeous sunsets. I mentioned that I borrowed equipment in my post yesterday...well it was a DSLR with HD video capabilities. Here is a short video from Ashley and I's 20 min trip to Washington Park last night to enjoy the spring like weather before the sun went down. I cant wait to get my new camera in the mail and begin to play around with making videos.

Hanging out with Truck 11 from the Denver Fire Department

This past Saturday at 4:45pm as im sitting in our 2 bedroom row home in Denver, I hear a loud crash coming from the back alley followed by the alarm going off on my Nissan Frontier. I look out the window and what to I see? My truck sitting sideways and a black Chevy with its nose buried in the bricks of the neighbors crumbling garage. After an hour long conversation with local authorities the driver is guess what..... UNINSURED! How fun! What a way to spend a beautiful 60 degree afternoon in Denver. Luckily I have a great insurance agent to help me out on this one,

Makeup Tips

As a lead up to the 2011 wedding season we will be posting tips and information for brides as they prepare for their upcoming wedding day. This weeks tips relate to the brides/bridesmaids makeup courtesy of Ashley who was browsing on www.ourweddingday.com.

Test, Take Photos & Evaluate
Ask any bride and she will tell you that the makeup you wear on your wedding day makes all the difference when it comes time for the wedding pictures! You may be wondering what kinds of makeup to wear and how much of it, but if you follow these ten tips you'll be well on your way to the perfect wedding photography makeup!

Do a test run with your wedding makeup artists, and take photos afterward to evaluate. Not only is it important to do a photography makeup test run, you should probably take some photos afterwards to see how they come out (optimally, take the photos at the time of day your wedding will take place at). Morning light is different than afternoon and evening light. Knowing what shades the camera picks up, as well as seeing the makeup along with your dress, will really help when perfecting it.
Apply your makeup in natural light. Natural light is the key to flawless makeup. You can detect subtle tones in skin and foundation color, and know for certain how much blush or bronzer to put on. Evening light can cover all sorts of mistakes.
Go easy on the shimmers and translucent powders. While a bit of shimmer looks nice when going out at night, too much is not good for photography makeup. It will end up looking streaky and unpolished.
Wear more than you would if you were going out for the evening. Even if you are not the type to wear a ton of makeup, you need to get used to wearing it for your wedding day. You will look completely washed out without it.
Remember to use waterproof mascara. No matter what you say beforehand, you are probably going to cry. Even if you are not that emotional, you might just cry because you are releasing all of the stress leading up to the big day. Be prepared with waterproof mascara, just in case.
Wear fake eyelashes. Though some dislike the idea of anything “fake,” most wedding makeup artists will tell you that it’s worth it to wear fake eyelashes. They really make your eyes stand out, and once you have them on, you will hardly even notice that they’re there! Just make sure you purchase a quality brand that looks natural. Read online reviews and consult with your makeup artist to know which ones to buy. You can even put (waterproof) mascara on them to blend them into your eye makeup.
Go for powder with a more yellow tint, as pink or white powder can cause the flash of the camera to pick up shades of white. You want your powder to match your skin tone, but try to avoid anything that is going to give you a ghostly or pale look. Cameras are definitely going to pick up white shades more than the yellows.
Blend your concealer, powder and your bronzers together with a blending brush. Also, make sure the color of your neck is carefully blended with the color of your face. No matter how perfectly blended your face is, if your neck doesn't match, it will look odd.
Before putting on your bridal makeup, make sure to take excellent care of your skin in the days leading up to the wedding. This entails a regime of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing.
Stand up tall. Good posture can cover a multitude of sins. No matter how fabulous your makeup looks, if you are slouching in your photos, you will not be happy with them!

A Wedding Photographers Frequently Asked Questions...

There are many questions that run through a couples mind as they are interviewing potential photographers to capture their wedding day. At Drake Busch Photography Studio, Ashley and I pride ourselves on being as open and honest about the products and services you will be receiving when you book us for you wedding. Furthermore we strive to be be as easily accessible to our clients and make your entire wedding experience as enjoyable and memorable as possible. The following are answers to questions we get asked often during our consultations with couples.

About us?

Drake Busch Photography Studio is Denver based Wedding and Portrait Photography Studio providing photography services to clients nationwide. Ashley and I will work together on your wedding day to creatively capture every moment as it unfolds and provide you with photos of your wedding day that you will cherish for years to come.

When should we schedule an engagement shoot?

Typically the engagement shoot is scheduled 4-6 months prior to the wedding. This will allow enough time to be able to use the photos for save-the-date announcements, guest books, etc. However, engagements shoots may take place any date prior to the wedding.

The engagement shoot is a very important part of your wedding photography experience. It gives both us as the photographers and you as a couple the chance to get to know each other more. We like to keep them relaxed and fun in a location of your choice. It also gives you a chance to get comfortable with us, and being in front of our cameras.

How much experience do you have as a wedding photographer?

I am formally trained with a photography degree from the Art Institute of Colorado. This will be my third year owning and operating Drake Busch Photography and consistently shooting numerous weddings nationwide. Ashley has been assisting as my 2nd photographer for a year and a half. We are well equipped and knowledgeable to creatively capture your wedding day and make it the most memorable fun experience possible.

How would you describe your style?

We provide a relaxed, crisp and clean documentation of your entire wedding day. We spend most of the day capturing fun and candid moments as your day unfolds. We will also take the time to direct you and your families for more traditional/formal shots as well.

What kind of equipment do you shoot with?

We currently are equipped with top-of-the-line Canon professional digital cameras and lenses. We carry a variety of lighting equipment and flashes the day of your wedding to meet any lighting situation.

Will I get the full rights to the photos from my wedding day?

The answer is yes if you select the package that includes a CD of high-resolution images? You will receive a disc of high-resolution jpegs as well as web-sized jpegs with your final products. You will also receive a copyright release form to take with you to printers who require it.

How long after my wedding will I see the images?

Typically it takes 3-4 weeks to process and edit each wedding's photos before coming online for viewing and ordering. Most often a sneak peek will be provided on our blog :)

How many photos will be on the disc?

There is no limit to the amount of photos that we deliver to you. Generally you will get anywhere between 600-900 photos depending on the wedding.

Do you travel?

We LOVE to travel! We would be happy to discuss your wedding plans with you and create a travel wedding package thats just right for you.

Do you have Insurance?

Yes we are fully covered with commercial photography insurance.

How much do I need to put down to reserve my date?

We require a 30% retainer fee to book and save your date. The remainder of the amount is then due 2 weeks prior to your wedding.

Do you accept credit cards?

The answer is yes. If paying by credit card however we do ask that you pay a flat rate of $800 to book your date. The remainder is then due 2 weeks prior to your wedding. Select the Wedding Retainer Fee from the drop down below and click on the “Pay Now” button below to pay via PayPal.

Can I order an album or other print products in addition to my wedding package?

We will work with you to design and create a custom album that you will cherish for years to come. The styles and options are endless. We also have a wide array of print products available for purchase either through our online proofing page or direct from us, and our preferred printer. Ask us to learn more about a la carte and print pricing.
